Literacy
Meekins Middle School expects students to read a minimum of thirty (30) minutes each night during the school year. In addition, we encourage students to continue reading during the summer months. This continued reading will ensure students are ready and prepared to enter 5th grade. The following texts are choices for the summer reading assignment: The Watsons Go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis or Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli (One of these novels is also included in your packet. Please return in August)
Students will be required to take an Accelerated Reader test on this text during the first two weeks of school to “jump start” progress toward the annual goal. This grade will be recorded.
Additionally, each 9 weeks students will be graded on their Accelerated Reader goals. Students who meet or exceed their AR goal will earn a 100%. All other grades will be the percentage of the student’s individual AR goal that is met. These grades will be averaged into each quarter’s final grade.
CLASSWORK:
Classwork will be assigned through Google Classroom. We will be using the Engage New York Curriculum and will be doing classwork on Google Slides as part of a digital interactive notebook for each unit.
